Mesa Verde National Park - Day Five

We left Durango for a 40 minute drive to Mesa Verde National Park.  We stopped at the visitor’s center and arranged tours.  We took a one hour self-guided tour of Spruce Tree House and a ranger lead tour through Cliff House.  These are ancient Pueblo cliff dwellings preserved overtime and today remain in excellent condition.  To gain access to these sites involves climbing ladders, winding narrow stone steps and descents of 80-100 feet.  It was very interesting and pretty unbelievable.  We took a short hike through Soda Canyon that allowed us to see Balcony House from afar.
We left the park and drove to Shiprock New Mexico to have dinner with Julie and Aaron for a few hours.  We left for our Kayenta, AZ hotel for the night.
More later . . . .
