We began our road trip to California at 6:45 a.m. It was very windy and rainy. We saw a beautiful rainbow around Toledo while the temperature steadily dropped as we drove West. We had a long telephone conversation with Jen and the kids along the way. They had just returned from a vacation in Hawaii. It was fun to hear their stories about the trip. The excitement in their voices was joyful. We had planned on stopping around 4:00 p.m. but decided to continue on since we were feeling good and the weather was getting warmer. We made it to Des Moines, Iowa traveling 704 miles in 11 hours. We found our La Quinta hotel, had dinner and quickly fell asleep for the night. Tomorrow it is on to Colorado.
